San Gaetano

logo

A rare sight for sore eyes will behold you inside the newly restored Church of San Michele and San Gaetano, in Florence's Piazzetta Antinori (Via Tornabuoni): For the first time in decades, you will have the privilege to see the church's plain greystone interior exquisitely decked in all its loveliness.

San Gaetano was built in 1604-1648 by Cardinale Carlo dei Medici on the site of San Michele Bertelde, a Romanesque church dated 1100 circa. Inside the Church are also a Pietro da Cortona painting and a beautiful Luca della Robbia. The parish priest is Don Luca Giusterini; Mass is held in Italian on Saturdays at 6 PM and in German on Sundays at 10.00 AM. The church is open daily from 9-12 and from 4-7.
